Carla Jankowski Volunteer

NWA is grateful for the past and current volunteers that have  helped us build such a strong foundation.

For those new to our work, we’d love to welcome you to our  creative, thoughtful, and engaged team. Let’s connect and  expand our ability to improve individual skills, build community,  and promote civic action.

  • Are you a teacher, writer, or activist interested in doing community-based work? NWA is always seeking energetic and engaging leaders for our writing workshops: Apply here.
  • Are you a visual artist, musician, storyteller, or performer with a project idea? Support a cause you care about by developing an artistic partnership.
  • Do you have writing, marketing, or design experience? Create a flyer, brochure, poster, or invitation.
  • Are you a skilled proofreader? We are always seeking proofreading help for the Journal of Ordinary Thought. We fit most schedules, since we publish JOT three times a year.
  • Do you love to be out in the community, interacting with diverse audiences? We often need support tabling at community-based events, sharing the NWA story with potential writers and potential donors.
  • Do you have other skills or talents you’d like to put to use? We welcome your ideas! Call us today at (773) 684-2742 or email us at editors(at)jot.org.

Sheila Barabad

 Intern

At this time we have filled our available intern positions. If you  are interested in a possible internship for Summer 2012,  please check back in mid-April for more information.

NWA seeks creative and enthusiastic interns throughout the year. Although our budget is too small to offer paid internships, we can offer a flexible schedule with some virtual work, and the opportunity to work with a supportive, vibrant, community-based non-profit organization.

General internship qualifications include:

  • Earned or currently pursuing a bachelors degree at an accredited university
  • Interest in community-based arts and/or adult education
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cohesive team
  • Strong communication skills
  • Self-motivation, accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work approximately 15–20 hours per week

The Neighborhood Writing Alliance is pleased to offer six internship opportunities for summer 2012. All applications are due April 23, 2012.
